Hiring a boat in Blanes
Blanes is the first town on the Costa Brava coming from Barcelona, an hour away by train, and its rental fleet is that of a day-boat harbour: 17 companies, four of them with no-licence boats and others with jet skis and RIBs. From the harbour, at the foot of the Sa Palomera rock, you head north to Cala Sant Francesc and the Lloret coves (Canyelles, Boadella), or south to s'Abanell beach and the mouth of the Tordera. Lloret de Mar, 5 km away, adds 8 more companies and Tossa, 12 km, one.
The season runs from May to September. Blanes and Lloret lie south of the tramontana zone: when the north of the Costa Brava closes, you can usually still go out here. In summer the garbí breeze comes in at midday; book the morning. There are scheduled boat trips to Tossa for those who would rather not charter.
