Boat hire in Galicia

Galicia has 84 boat rental companies and nearly all are in the Rías Baixas, the only stretch of the mainland Atlantic coast with plenty of sheltered water: Vigo, with 19 companies and the biggest ría, is the first harbour; Sanxenxo, with 14 and the most varied fleet, the second; Baiona (6), Portonovo (4), O Grove and Cangas complete the Ría de Vigo and the Ría de Pontevedra. A Coruña province adds the Ría de Ares e Betanzos, with Sada (6 companies) and A Coruña city (5); Lugo has hardly any. Sixteen companies advertise sailing boats and fourteen skippered hire; no-licence boats are a minority.

The trips that define Galicia are the Atlantic Islands: the Cíes from Vigo and Baiona, Ons from Sanxenxo, Sálvora from Arousa, all a national park with regulated anchoring and a daily cap. The season runs from June to September; inside the rías you sail in almost any wind, outside there is swell. Scheduled boats run to the islands from the main harbours.

Indicative high-season prices from the directory's reference table, reviewed September 2026: a no-licence motorboat costs €120–250 a day; a RIB of 6–8 m, €250–650; a 10–12 m sailing yacht, €400–900 bareboat or €600–1,500 skippered; a catamaran, €1,000–2,500; a skippered motor yacht, from €900. Expect 20–40% less outside July and August. Deposits run from €300 to €2,000 and fuel is extra. Each company sets its own prices.
