Hiring a boat in Burela
Burela is the port of the northern bonito tuna, one of the biggest fishing ports in Galicia, with the live-bait fleet and the Ril beach next door; but the Google Maps register returns no boat rental companies based in the municipality. It is a working port, not a leisure one, and the Mariña's rental fleet is in Ribadeo, 26 km away, with the only dedicated company in Lugo province on the Ría del Eo; Ortigueira, in A Coruña, 38 km, has another. From Ribadeo, the Burela coast is about 12 miles west, past the Cathedrals and Foz.
The season runs from June to September. Burela has no ría: the harbour is artificial and, outside the breakwater, open Cantabrian with swell and a tide of more than four metres. You go harbour to harbour in good weather.
