Hiring a boat in La Manga del Mar Menor
La Manga is the 21 km sand spit separating the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean, with harbours on both sides, the golas connecting them and Cabo de Palos at the start; but the Google Maps register returns no boat rental companies based on La Manga itself. The nearest are at the two ends: Cabo de Palos, with 4 companies and sailing boats, and San Pedro del Pinatar and Santiago de la Ribera, with 17 and 5, 5–6 km away across the Mar Menor. It is the only place in Spain where you choose your sea: the flat lagoon inside, the Mediterranean and Isla Grosa outside.
The season runs from April to October, with companies open all year. The passage between the two seas is through the golas (El Estacio, with a lifting bridge and opening times), shallow and only with suitable boats; the Mar Menor can be sailed in any wind.
