Alicante city has 66 boat rental companies, the second-largest number in the Valencia region after Valencia itself, and nearly all in one place: the marina of the port, beside the promenade and the Real Club de Regatas, with more than 40 companies within 500 m. From here you head for the island of Tabarca, about 11 miles away and the classic trip, and for the coves of Cabo de las Huertas and San Juan beach. Seventeen companies advertise sailing boats, eleven skippered hire and ten motor yachts; four have no-licence boats, though for that kind of small boat there is more choice in Santa Pola, 18 km away.
The season runs from April to October, with a thermal breeze on summer afternoons. Alicante is also the only Costa Blanca capital with an airport 15 minutes from the harbour, and several companies work off-season too. There are scheduled boats to Tabarca for those who would rather not charter.
