Ondarroa is the last harbour in Biscay before Gipuzkoa, one of the largest fishing ports on the Cantabrian coast, with the old town in the bend of the Artibai, the Calatrava bridge and the Saturraran beach beside it, and it has one boat rental company, skippered sailing trips, with 13 Google reviews. It is the only offer between Mundaka, 24 km away, with the top-rated in Biscay, and Zumaia, 14 km, with 2 companies and jet skis. From Ondarroa you sail west to Lekeitio and the island of San Nicolás or east to Mutriku, Deba and the Flysch, in good weather.

The season runs from June to September. It is open Cantabrian: swell nearly always, a tide of more than four metres and a bar at the Artibai mouth.
