Hiring a boat in Cadaqués
Cadaqués has no marina: its 12 rental companies work from the village bay and from Portlligat, with motorboats and llaüts on buoy moorings. It is the closest base to the coves of the Cap de Creus nature park (Cala Nans, Sa Sabolla, Cala Jugadora, the lighthouse) and the fleet is small day boats: two companies advertise no-licence boats and two skippered hire. For sailing boats, catamarans or big groups, Roses, 9 km away, has 30 companies.
The season runs from May to September. Cadaqués is the most tramontana-exposed point on the whole Catalan coast: on a north-wind warning, trips are cancelled. On calm days it is the wildest and emptiest stretch of the Costa Brava, with the park's rules (regulated anchoring, speed limits) explained when you pick up the boat. There are scheduled boat trips to the cape for those who would rather not charter.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence to rent a boat in Cadaques?
Not for a motorboat up to 5 metres and 15 hp, in daylight and near the coast: two companies advertise them and the llaüts are that size. Bigger boats need an ICC or Spanish licence, or a skipper (two companies).
How much does it cost to rent a boat in Cadaques?
A no-licence motorboat or llaüt, €120–250 a day; a RIB with licence, €250–650; a skippered trip from €600 or by the seat. Indicative high-season ranges; fuel and deposit are extra.
Where do I pick the boat up if there is no harbour?
On the beach in the village bay or at Portlligat: the companies ferry you out to the buoy in a tender, so bring what you need in a bag.
Can I sail in the Cap de Creus park?
Yes, and it is the point of Cadaqués: Cala Nans, Sa Sabolla, Cala Jugadora and the lighthouse are under 4 miles. Anchoring is regulated by zones and there are speed limits; the companies give you the chart.
What about the tramontana in Cadaques?
It hits here harder than anywhere on the coast, several days a month, and every company cancels when it blows. Check the forecast the evening before; on calm days the sea is glass.
