Empuriabrava is a residential marina with more than 20 km of navigable canals, in the municipality of Castelló d'Empúries, and its 23 rental companies work from the canals themselves with a direct exit into the Bay of Roses. It is one of the places on the Costa Brava with the most no-licence boats (five companies advertise them) because the canals and the bay, sandy and rock-free, are easy for someone who has never driven a boat. Four companies have sailing boats and there are jet skis. Roses, 5 km away, adds 30 more companies and the way out to Cap de Creus.
The season runs from May to September. The Bay of Roses is open to the tramontana, the north wind of the Empordà: when it blows you stay on the canals or stay ashore. There are scheduled boat trips along the canals and the bay for those who prefer to be passengers.
