The Canaries are the only coast in Spain where boat rental works twelve months a year, and their 138 companies follow a simple rule: they sit on the south of each island, where the north-east trade winds do not reach. Tenerife holds 84, nearly all between Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes, with whale-watching as the main trip. Lanzarote has 25, in Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen, with Papagayo a step away. Gran Canaria, 22, between Pasito Blanco, Mogán and Puerto Rico. Fuerteventura, 4, in Corralejo; the small islands, barely any.
Fifteen companies advertise motor yachts, thirteen skippered hire, twelve jet skis, eleven sailing boats and seven no-licence boats.
