Hiring a boat in Alcúdia
Alcúdia is the rental base of northern Mallorca: 38 companies, 26 of them within 500 m of Alcudiamar, the marina with 745 berths according to its listing, and the rest at Port d'Alcúdia and Marina de Bonaire. The bay of Alcúdia is long, sandy and sheltered, one of the easiest places on the island to take a motorboat out, and from here you head for Formentor, about 8 miles away, La Victòria and Cap de Pinar, or south towards Can Picafort and Son Serra. Eight companies advertise skippered hire, two no-licence boats and two motor yachts; Pollença, in the next bay, adds 15 more companies.
The season runs from April to October and many companies close in winter. There are scheduled boat trips to Formentor for those who would rather not drive, and they are among the most popular on the island.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence to hire a boat in Alcudia?
Not for a motorboat up to 5 metres and 15 hp, used in daylight and inside the bay: two companies advertise them and the bay is ideal for a first outing. For bigger boats or the run to Formentor, an ICC or Spanish licence, or a skipper (eight companies).
How much does a boat cost in Alcudia?
A no-licence motorboat, €120–250 a day; a RIB with licence, €250–650; a skippered boat from €600; a motor yacht with skipper from €900. Indicative high-season ranges; fuel and deposit are extra.
Can I get to Formentor from Alcudia?
Yes, the beach and Cala Murta are about 8 miles away around Cap de Pinar, with a licence or skipper and calm seas; the cape itself, further on, is open water. Scheduled boats do the same trip.
Where do boats leave from?
From Alcudiamar, the marina at Port d'Alcúdia with 26 companies within 500 m, or from the commercial port next door where the Menorca ferries dock; Marina de Bonaire is a small alternative.
Are there boat trips in Alcudia?
Yes, scheduled trips to Formentor and along the bay, some of the busiest on the island. They are listed under the boat trips category.
