Boat hire in Menorca

Menorca is the island of coves and the day boat: 131 rental companies, the third fleet in the Balearics after Mallorca and Ibiza, with a high share of small motorboats and no-licence boats. Fourteen companies explicitly advertise boats you can drive without a licence and 33 offer skippered hire. The fleet is concentrated in the two natural harbours: Mahón, with 48 companies and the Port Mahón marina as its base, and Ciutadella, with 32 in the old harbour. From Mahón you head for the south-east coves (Binibèquer, Es Canutells) and Illa de l'Aire; from Ciutadella, for Cala en Turqueta, Macarella and the west coast.

The third centre is the north: Fornells and Addaia, in Es Mercadal, with 27 companies in two enclosed bays that are the best place on the island for beginners. Ferreries, with Cala Galdana, adds 6. The season runs from April to October; when the tramontana blows hard the north coast closes and everyone sails the south. In July and August no-licence boats are booked days ahead. There are scheduled boat trips too, for those who would rather not take the helm.

Indicative high-season prices from the directory's reference table, reviewed September 2026: a no-licence motorboat costs €120–250 a day; a RIB of 6–8 m, €250–650; a 10–12 m sailing yacht, €400–900 bareboat or €600–1,500 skippered; a catamaran, €1,000–2,500; a skippered motor yacht, from €900. Expect 20–40% less outside July and August. Deposits run from €300 to €2,000 and fuel is extra. Each company sets its own prices.
